Shamanic Counselling
What is Shamanic CounselLing?
Shamanic Counseling is a powerful spiritual practice that merges ancient wisdom with contemporary therapeutic methods to support individuals in their healing journey, fostering clarity and deep connection with the inner self. Rooted in diverse shamanic traditions, this practice has been thoughtfully adapted to resonate with the needs of modern seekers.
My Background
My heritage, which is a blend of Polish, Swedish, and Nordic descent, is deeply intertwined with shamanic traditions. Among the Slavic peoples, including Poles, shamanism was historically practiced by spiritual figures known as "volkhvs" or "vedmaks," who served as intermediaries between the physical and spiritual realms. In Northern Sweden and Norway, the Sámi people engaged in shamanic practices through their "Noaidi," who conducted healing ceremonies and rituals using drumming and chanting. Norse culture also embraced shamanic practices through "völvas" and "seidr" practitioners, who entered trance states to perform divination and magic.
My training in Core Shamanism, developed by Michael Harner, synthesizes these shamanic practices into a universal framework. This, combined with my cultural background, equips me to offer a comprehensive and inclusive approach to shamanic counseling.
The Practice of Shamanic Counseling
In Shamanic Counseling, techniques such as shamanic journeying enable individuals to enter altered states of consciousness, facilitating connections with spirit guides and power animals. These journeys are instrumental in promoting deep healing, spiritual insight, and personal growth. My practice integrates principles from Core Shamanism with modalities like sound healing, Reiki, and chakra activation, creating tailored healing sessions for each individual.
Ethical Considerations
I approach the practice of shamanism with a deep awareness of cultural sensitivities, particularly in relation to non-indigenous practitioners. My work is rooted in respect for these traditions while providing an inclusive and accessible pathway to spiritual healing. By focusing on the universal aspects of shamanic practice, I aim to honour the diversity of spiritual experiences and offer a healing journey that is both respectful and transformative.

Accessing the Shamanic State of Consciousness (SSC) through the rhythmic beating of a drum, typically at a tempo of 200-255 beats per minute (bpm), is a core practice in shamanism. The consistent, rapid drumming serves as an auditory guide that helps practitioners enter a trance-like state, facilitating a journey into the spiritual realms.
The repetitive and steady beat of the drum at this tempo induces a hypnotic effect, allowing the mind to shift from its ordinary state of awareness to the SSC. This altered state enables individuals to connect with their inner selves, spirit guides, and the energies of the natural world, promoting healing and spiritual insight.
Drumming at 200-255 bpm mimics the heartbeat and creates a sound environment that supports the brain in producing theta waves, which are associated with deep relaxation, meditation, and trance states. This rhythmic entrainment helps practitioners bypass the conscious mind, accessing deeper layers of consciousness where shamanic journeys and visions occur.
Through this powerful technique, individuals can explore the spiritual dimensions, gain wisdom, and bring back knowledge to apply in their everyday lives. The drum acts as a bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds, offering a profound tool for transformation and growth in shamanic practice.

Shamanic extraction work is a fundamental healing practice within shamanism aimed at removing spiritual intrusions or negative energies that have entered a person's energetic field. These intrusions can manifest as physical ailments, emotional disturbances, or spiritual imbalances. The goal of extraction work is to restore harmony and balance by cleansing the individual's energy body of these harmful influences.
The process typically begins with the shaman entering a Shamanic State of Consciousness (SSC), often achieved through drumming, rattling, or other rhythmic sounds. Once in this altered state, the shaman can perceive the spiritual dimension and identify the intrusive energies within the person's aura or physical body. These intrusions are seen as spiritual blockages or foreign entities that disrupt the individual's well-being.
Using various shamanic tools and techniques, the shaman then extracts these intrusions. This can involve the use of hands, feathers, crystals, or other sacred objects to pull the negative energy out. The shaman may also use breathwork or sucking methods to remove the intrusions. Throughout this process, the shaman maintains a strong connection with their spirit guides, who assist in locating and safely disposing of the harmful energies.
After the extraction, it is common for the shaman to perform additional healing work to fill the void left by the removed intrusion. This can include soul retrieval, where lost fragments of the soul are reintegrated, or energy restoration practices to replenish the individual's vitality and strengthen their energy field.
Shamanic extraction work is a powerful and transformative practice that addresses the root causes of spiritual and energetic imbalances. By removing these intrusions, individuals can experience profound healing on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels, leading to a greater sense of wholeness and well-being.

Psychopomp work is a specialized shamanic practice focused on guiding souls to the afterlife or helping them transition from the earthly realm to the spiritual realm. The term "psychopomp" comes from the Greek words "psyche" (soul) and "pompos" (guide), reflecting the role of the practitioner as a soul guide.
This practice involves assisting spirits that have become stuck or lost after death, often due to sudden or traumatic circumstances, unresolved emotional issues, or a lack of awareness about their passing. These souls, sometimes referred to as earthbound spirits, may linger in the physical world, causing disturbances or seeking resolution.
The shaman, or psychopomp practitioner, begins by entering a Shamanic State of Consciousness (SSC), typically through the use of rhythmic drumming, rattling, or other methods to achieve an altered state. In this state, the shaman can perceive and communicate with the spiritual realm, including the souls needing assistance.
Once in contact with the spirit, the psychopomp engages in compassionate dialogue to understand the spirit's situation and help them realize they have passed on. The practitioner may call upon spirit guides, ancestors, or other benevolent beings to aid in the process. These guides often assist in escorting the soul to the appropriate spiritual plane or afterlife destination.
The psychopomp may also perform rituals or ceremonies to honor the spirit and ease their transition. This can include offering prayers, creating sacred space, or using symbolic actions to release any attachments the spirit may have to the earthly realm.
Psychopomp work is vital for maintaining energetic balance and harmony within the physical and spiritual worlds. It helps earthbound spirits find peace and move forward in their journey, while also relieving any negative impact their presence might have on the living. For those experiencing hauntings or feeling the presence of spirits, psychopomp work can bring a sense of closure and tranquility, benefiting both the departed and the living.
